Write down the answers before paying a deposit. A verbal promise does not replace a valid agreement and proof of payment.
Agreement and money
- Who is named on the agreement, and is shared occupancy allowed?
- What is the full monthly cost, including utilities and regular fees?
- Who holds the deposit, when is it returned, and what may be deducted?
- What happens if one person leaves early?
Home life and boundaries
- What are the quiet hours and rules for guests or overnight stays?
- How are cleaning, shared purchases, and damage handled?
- Are there pets, smoking, remote work, or accessibility needs?
- Which spaces and belongings are private?
Safety and moving out
- Has the home and the person offering it been checked independently?
- What notice is required and how will the room’s condition be recorded?
- What is the plan for conflict, emergency repairs, or an urgent move?
